*Featured Speaker* Les Werner, PhD.:

Dr. Werner is a Professor of Forestry at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point. He is a member of the Wisconsin Arborist Association, Urban Forestry Advisory Council, and ISA. His research interests include tree biology, nutrient demand by trees, tree fertilization, and nutrient cycling. He has numerous publications including ISA Best Management Practices: Tree and Shrub Fertilization and Urban Forestry: Planning and Managing Urban Greenspaces.

Presentation: This hands-on, 4 hour workshop will focus on tree growth. Participants will dissect and stain branches and stems to gain a better understanding of the biology surrounding primary (elongation) and secondary (thickening) growth in trees. Additionally, we will examine how branches are attached to the stems of trees. The content of this workshop is intended to build upon a basic understanding of tree biology.
